Springs Break! The most common issue in the garage door business is the breaking of springs. There are two types of springs: torsion and extension. All springs have life cycles. Typically, tempered steel springs, like the one shown here on the right, last anywhere from five to fifteen years, depending on how much the garage door is used.  Every spring replacement is different, and there are many types of doors out there. There are two options in most cases to replacing your spring/springs. The one spring option is the most economical option. Paying for only one spring will lower the cost on material, therefore lowering the price you pay. Not all doors require two springs, so you won't have to worry about it. The two spring option is the best option for you and your door for the future. Two springs balances the door better, gets you a better warranty, and if one spring breaks, you still have one to at least help you get the door up. GarageWorks uses galvanized springs because they tend to last longer than the traditional tempered steel. With whichever option you may choose, GarageWorks will be there to give you the correct spring/springs the door requires.

Another common problem that happens takes place inside the opener casing. The casing contains a plastic gear which the motor moves, to rotate the chain and lift the door. Sometimes, when springs are broken or have been broken for a while, the motor will still be powerful enough to lift the door. This is not good for the plastic gear at all. The picture to the right shows what happens to a gear that has been lifting a heavy door for a while. Its okay though, because now gears are made of a tougher material, nylon. The nylon gear replacement, with the spring adjustment, will further the life of the existing opener. Motors from the 80's are still running out there so change that gear and save money!
For you that have had an accident like these two pictures on the right, don't worry, you're not the first. At least three times a month we get a call from someone that ran thru their door. GarageWorks has replaced doors like these, the same day the accident took place. Security in these times is vital and you need a quick response. Whether your door is a sectional door or a one piece door, GarageWorks can assess the problem and get you a new door in promptly. If it is a sectional door, more than likely you can save up to 40% on the price of a door by just buying the sections only. This could mean hundreds! Unfortunately for the one piece door homeowners, they don't make them anymore. Meaning parts would have to come from an existing home with the same type door. Get a free estimate though. We strive on saving you money on your new garage door.
